Mundoo dreaming: ansel's upturned grave

This is the B&W version of the same image posted by moi a few days ago. I don't like it anywhere near as much as the colour version, but I wanted to give it ye olde college try at taking a B&W image of landscape. Perhaps this needed more snow-capped mountains or something...

Then again, I don't mind this B&W photo of row boats or the cubby house in the storm clouds or Australian flora as much as Ansel's Upturned Grave.

@Daroru: Thanks. I wasn't entirely satisfied (or convinced) with the various tones here. When I stopped jabbing myself in the aorta with a primary school compass, I realised it wasn't as bad as I had first thought. :)

Nice series mate. I like the colour ones too but the subtlety of this one has something going for it. It's all great stuff.

You`re comparing apples to oranges dude. Both are fab stand alone images. The colour version is a surreal image of otherworldliness (is that a word?) but with a sense of calm. This b/w is an image focusing on the textures and nuances of the seascape without the distraction of the colours. At least that's how I see it... and we all know I'm the know it all around here. In conclusion: they are both the same but different. Ok, ok, they're both excellent images unto themselves. It's great to see how one image can become something so totally different just by converting to b/w.

I guess Amy has saved me the effort of saying the near-same thing. Removal of color is great for revealing detail and texture 'lost' within the wash of color itself. That’s why it worked so well on your other conversions . . but I prefer the color version of this one. Whew.

For the record, out of this B&W and the others I linked to on this page, this is the only one that I actually converted from colour. The others were originally taken in B&W. Perhaps that's why they're bolder and less washed-out looking. I'm not sure.
