That was then, this is now (1 of plenty)

Posted by Sash (Adelaide, Australia) on 2 January 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

Although this image was not taken on the last day of 2007, it was part of the last series of photos I took for 2007. I'll be posting more from this series over the course of the next few days/weeks/millennia.

The location of what thou is looking at is Pt Willunga, down along the southern end of Adelaide's coastline. If you have fitted your peepers correctly, then the pilons you see are the same pilons that have weathered and often been photographed as 'legs standing up in the middle of frikkin nowhere' from a piece of history that was once upon a time used as a jetty or a whaling station or a UFO landing site. Whichever explanation floats your boat, the location itself was inspired by Dachimas, who took one of the most stunning photos of this region not so long ago, thereby setting the standard for procrastinators of photography such as myself to follow.

Yessssss, I finally ventured out there one evening to wield my own lens by way of aesthetic appreciation over this whale carcass of a location as a fairly average sunset was beginning to unfold before mine eyes. The disappointment of a flaccid sun disappearance not withstanding, quick thought and slightly slower action ensured the influx of artrificial colours present were aided and abetted by three filters, including the main culprit, Ole Smokey (aka Tobacco 'Earl' Grey).

On a totally different note, I'd like to extend my best wishes for 2008 to all Aminus 3 members and visitors to this site. Furthermore, I'd also like to apologise for my lack of correspondence over the past couple of months. Suffice to say, I never liked any of you anyway.^

PS This is the first image I have posted using my NEW CAMERA.*

* Although it's not the first image I have taken with my new camera, it is the first one I am impressed enough with to make public as the previous few hundred were all about getting-to-know-you experimentation. Kudos to Dachimas for 'handing down' this utterly sensational piece of Japanese technology.

^ This is my first joke of the new year. Dial 1800-DIDNTLAUGH to express your thoughts on which direction you predict the gags will go from here on in.
