The nail that sticks up will be hammered back down.

@Alex Lee: Yeah, I gathered that from my experience over there. The difference between Asian attitudes and Australian attitudes is astounding. Individualism, especially through expression of thought / opinion, is a sacred right here. We're a country comprising of twenty one million nails that stick up.
They've all got different faces - how cool is that! Another great b&w. The high contrast works well here, but I'd also like to see a version where the highlights were a little less harsh. Reckon a more subtle treatment could work well too.
btw did you tell me you used photoshop? I can't remember.....

@Stu: Yeah, I noticed the faces were all different as well which is so refreshing for a setting tht would suggest otherwise.
I adjust the sharpness and tones (contrast) with 99% of my images, including this one. I deliberately wanted to make the statues at the back lighter than those in the foreground. I do have the original image which is, to use your wise words, more subtle than this particular treatment. Then again if it appears too harsh, it could also be a case of your monitor settings being different to mine. Just thinking outside the square, Jackie, just thinking outside the square... ;)
Reading the comments above, each to their own, of course, but personally, I don't find the highlights too harsh. On the contrary, I feel that the treatment here gives the image a wonderful lift. Absolutely excellent black and white. (I have a calibrated monitor, by the way.) You're making me realise that I must get into in digital as I did previously in film.
