Night fishing

This was taken with my itsy bitsy teeny weeny IXY 4.0MP with the shutter open for close to maximum capacity. Although the quality is a touch grainy, I happen to love the effect it has created with the water (main subject). The sticks + tree trunks/branches protruding from the water plus the added bonus of the fisherman remaining perfectly still for fifteen seconds (I'm reliably informed it's an inevitable effect of most forms of fishing) make this a personal favourite o' mine.

BTW, the light in the distance is from a fireworks display across the other side of the lake.

Most of it is original - I took the image in sepia tone and it was a fifteen-second exposure. I adjusted the contrast and sharpness in PS. That's about the extent of the processing.

Love how you processed this one Sash. The lights across the water actually make it look like (to me) waves coming over a reef. I can definitely see why it's a favourite. Bravo!

As I replied in the previous comment, the extent of the processing was fairly minimal in the area of contrast / curves adjustment and sharpness (about the only two things I know how to do, really). The photo is in sepia tone, giving it the simplistic hue you see, and the exposure was fifteen seconds.

Took me at least a minute to realize the light on the lake wasn't in fact a giant tsunami about to engulf the fisherman and your IXY, but the lights from the town on the other side. The sepia toning is inspired, would never have occurred to me to try that here. Was he a willing subject or was he completely in the dark (no pun intended)? :-)

@Stu: Cheers Stuey. Sepia tone @ night is an old favourite of mine, especially in poor light which this certainly was as it was well after dusk (hence the fireworks going off). As for the fisherman, he was completely unaware of my prying lens and stalker-like intent. He went about his business in the traditional Japanese manner - sitting perfectly still and allowing the zenness of the setting to hook a fish for him. In that regard, it was incredibly lucky.
