We were too late for the sunset but just in time for the encore.
Help yourself to the blue cheese, but stay away from the green one.
Oh yeah I'm such a big fan of the negative space kind of photo. You're right the encore is just as wonderful. I'm surprised the shadows were so dark given the 5 second exposure. But if you were going for the colours on the horizon only then a job well done. I'd love to see this photo with a longer exposure. I think the scenery would really compliment the light show above.

@colourblind: It was quite dark as it was, so the results of the five-sec exposure are a bit misleading. Also, it was bloody cold and I didn't want to stay out there for too long; my wife and I stopped by the side of the road on our way home. I was really aiming for the sky rather than the foreground. I also wanted to capture the pelicans (bottom left) and swan (centre right) without losing their detail. Thanks for the comments and welcoming. ;)
Oh....welcome to the community!!!
welcome to am3. Usually encores are more colorful and vivid than the sunset itself. great contrast and beautiful colors.

@Srinivas Koduri: Thanks very much for the kind words. I agree that the post-sunset displays are often more spectacular than the sunset itself. However, it wasn't the case on this occasion as the clouds were in an awkward position to get that post-sunset glow. I think the lines in the foreground and mottled light give it something special nonetheless. Thanks again for your comment.

Welcome to Am3 Sash. I like the silhouettes and the colours you've captured here.

@Helen: Thanks very much, Helen. I posted a reply to your comment before I understood how to properly use the comments section.
It was unseasonally cold in Adelaide at the time of this photo but I estimated the five-second exposure to be enough for what I was trying to achieve. The actual light at that moment was much darker. I also 'enhanced' the colours in the background by playing around with the contrast.
Thanks for visiting and commenting. I appreciate it.
Nice silhouette! Welcome!

@Craiger: Cheers! I appreciate the compliment and the welcome.
Great first post Sash! Very nice indeed. I'm playing around with night shots myself and really enjoying the experimentation.
Oh....and welcome!

@Stu: Cheers, Stu. I have become a big fan of experimentation in the general scope of admiting to know next to nothing about the intricate whys and wherefores of actual photography. However, the more I've played and fudged the more I've come to understand this wonderful contraption. I'm looking to expand my horizons by purchasing a helicopter; the first few dozen crashes, undoubtedly involving air combat with imaginary German Barons coloured in red, should be enough to give me the knowledge I seek. Then, after I have survived several close shaves with the afterworld, and only then mind you, will I be truly qualified to talk about photography without saliva dribbling down my chin.
PS I have no idea what this reply was about. I followed these super swift typing fingers of mine until they stopped. PPS Thanks! ; )
Well, this one was before my Aminus3 days but I just thought I'd nip back here and say "WOW" !

@Ronnie 2¢: Thanks Ronnie. I appreciate that you've checked the 'catalogue' and found something interesting there. This image came about due to one of those moments when you're stuck at a cafe somewhere and then notice the breathtaking sunset unfolding in front of your eyes. Luckily for me my wife is rather understanding when it comes to photography, and so we were able to drive ten minutes down the road, pull the car over, sprint across to where the 'action' was and press the shutter a couple of times. Enough reminiscing...Cheers for the positive feedback mate.
